Concrete in Satisfactory: Which Recipe and How Much

Four concrete recipes from 15 to 90 per minute, why the fastest is not always the right one, and how much concrete a serious factory actually gets through.

Concrete is the material players most reliably under-build. It goes into every foundation, every pillar, every road, and two of the best steel alternates — and most factories run one small line built at Tier 2 and never revisited.

The four recipes

Six times the throughput between the slowest and fastest, and less than half the ore between the best and worst. Unusually, no single recipe wins both.

Fine Concrete is the ore champion at 1.38 per unit — under half the base recipe. It needs silica, which you are producing anyway if you have an aluminium chain.

Rubber Concrete is the throughput champion at 90/min, six times the base recipe, and it is second-best on ore. Rubber comes from oil, so this suits a factory with a refinery running.

Wet Concrete looks attractive at 80/min and is the trap. It needs 100 m³/min of water per Constructor, which means water extraction and piping for something you were producing from a dry, abundant rock. It also draws 30 MW, double the others. Take it only if water is genuinely convenient and rubber and silica are not.

How much concrete do you actually need?

More than you think, and the demand is bursty rather than continuous.

Foundations are the bulk of it. A single large factory platform is hundreds of foundations, each costing concrete, and elevated rail or road runs consume it at a rate that surprises people the first time they build one properly.

The pattern that works: a concrete line running continuously into a large storage buffer. Concrete is never urgent and always needed, so a modest line filling containers in the background is worth far more than a large line you switch on when you run out.

If you find yourself hand-crafting concrete or waiting on it before building, the line is too small. It is one of the cheapest things in the game to scale.

Limestone is abundant but not uncontested

Limestone nodes are plentiful and no other primary chain depends on them, which is why concrete feels free.

It is not entirely uncontested, though. Around ten machine recipes draw on limestone, including Cheap Silica, Distilled Silica, Cloudy Diamonds, the alternate concrete recipes themselves and the converter recipes that turn limestone into coal or iron ore.

For most factories supply comfortably exceeds demand. If you are running Distilled Silica at scale for an aluminium chain, check the limestone budget before assuming concrete is free.

The converter recipes

Worth knowing they exist: limestone can be converted into other resources through the Converter, and there is a recipe producing limestone from Reanimated SAM and Sulfur.

These belong to the very late game, where the Converter turns the resource map into something more flexible. They are not a solution to an early limestone shortage, and an early limestone shortage is not really a thing that happens.

Concrete unlocks better steel

The strongest argument for over-building concrete is not foundations at all. It is that Molded Beam and Molded Steel Pipe both trade concrete for a large throughput increase in the steel chain.

Molded Beam produces 45/min against the base recipe’s 15/min, costing 80 concrete per minute. That is a tripling of beam output for a material you have abundant nodes for.

So a factory with a healthy concrete line has a materially easier time with steel, and that connection is invisible if you are looking at the two chains separately. Concrete is worth over-building specifically because of what it unlocks elsewhere.

Sizing a line

A Miner Mk.2 on a normal limestone node gives 120/min, supporting between one and three Constructors depending on recipe:

  • Base recipe: 45 limestone per Constructor, so roughly two and a half Constructors, producing about 40 concrete/min.
  • Rubber Concrete: 100 limestone per Constructor, so one Constructor at 90 concrete/min from the same node — more than double the output for the same ore.
  • Fine Concrete: 60 limestone per Constructor, two Constructors at 100 concrete/min, plus a silica supply.

Notice that the recipe change more than doubles what one node produces. This is the general shape of alternate recipes in this game: the machine is rarely the constraint, the node is, and better recipes extract more from the same node.

Where to put the concrete line

Concrete is one of the better candidates for producing away from your main factory, for a reason specific to how you use it.

Most concrete is consumed where you are building, not where your production is. That means the useful place for concrete storage is next to your construction area, and the useful place for the production line is wherever the limestone is.

The arrangement that works: a limestone outpost producing concrete, belting or training it to a storage wall beside wherever you do your building. Concrete is far fewer items than limestone — 45 limestone becomes 15 concrete at the base recipe — so processing at the node cuts what you transport by two thirds.

With Rubber Concrete the ratio is different but the principle holds: make it at the node, move the finished product.

Dimensional Depot changes this

Once you have Dimensional Depot Uploaders, concrete becomes one of the best things to route into one.

The Depot lets you withdraw uploaded items from your personal inventory anywhere in the world, which exactly matches how concrete is consumed — in unpredictable quantities, wherever you happen to be building.

A concrete line feeding a Depot uploader removes the trip back to storage entirely, which over a long playthrough is a substantial amount of walking. Foundations, concrete and the common structural parts are the classic first things people upload for this reason.

Common mistakes

Building one small concrete line at Tier 2 and never revisiting it. It is the material most often found short at exactly the wrong moment.

Taking Wet Concrete for its throughput. 100 m³/min of water per Constructor plus 30 MW, for a product you were making from dry rock.

Not connecting concrete to steel. The molded alternates triple beam and pipe output for concrete you should have plenty of.

Assuming limestone is entirely uncontested. A large Distilled Silica operation draws on it meaningfully.

Waiting until you need concrete to make it. Run it continuously into storage; demand arrives in bursts.
